When Old Insulation Has to Go
Insulation removal and replacement starts with getting rid of material that no longer works. In Bradenton that usually means insulation soaked by a roof leak or hurricane damage, cellulose or fiberglass fouled by rats and squirrels, mold growing where moisture got trapped, or decades-old fill that has settled into a thin, dusty layer. Adding new insulation on top of that buries the problem. Taking it out lets us seal the ceiling, deal with the cause and put in a clean layer.
After the 2024 storms
Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit the area within two weeks of each other in fall 2024. Wikipedia reports that every single-family home on Anna Maria Island saw at least 3 to 4 feet of floodwater during Helene, and Milton came ashore near Siesta Key on October 9. Roofs that lost shingles or tiles let rain into attics across the region. Wet insulation loses most of its value and can hold moisture against drywall and framing, so it needs to come out once the roof is fixed.
Pests
Rodent nests and droppings in attic insulation bring odor and contamination. We vacuum out the soiled material and point out the entry gaps we find so they can be closed before new insulation goes in.
How removal works
We use a high-powered vacuum that pulls loose fill through a hose into bags outside, which keeps the mess out of your living space. Batts are bagged by hand. Old spray foam can be cut or scraped off when a roof deck has to be replaced or inspected. If we find old vermiculite or anything that might contain asbestos, we stop and recommend testing by a licensed abatement company before work continues.
Then replacement
Once the attic is clear, we seal the ceiling and install new insulation, blown-in or spray foam, to the depth or thickness on the quote. Doing it all at once saves a second trip and makes sure air sealing is not skipped.

Insulation Removal & Replacement Questions
Does insulation need to be replaced after a roof leak?
If it got wet and stayed wet, yes. Small, dry spots may be fine. We check how far the water spread before recommending removal.
Does homeowners insurance cover insulation removal?
That depends on your policy and the cause. Ask your insurer; we can give you a written scope and photos of the attic.
Is removing spray foam possible?
Yes, but it is slower than loose fill because it has to be cut or scraped. It costs more per square foot.
What if you find asbestos or vermiculite?
We stop and recommend testing by a licensed abatement company. We do not disturb suspect material.
How long does removal and replacement take?
Most attics take one to two days: removal and cleanup first, then air sealing and new insulation. Larger or heavily contaminated attics take longer.
