Two Foams, Different Jobs
Spray foam insulation is a liquid that expands on contact, fills the gaps around framing and hardens into an air seal and an insulating layer in one pass. In Bradenton homes it does its best work where ordinary insulation struggles: the underside of a hot roof deck, cramped cathedral ceilings, rooms over garages, raised floors on island cottages, and the edges of a house where air sneaks in.
Open-cell foam
Open-cell foam is light, soft and spongy. HomeGuide puts it at about R-3.5 to R-3.7 per inch. It expands a lot, so it fills irregular spaces well, and it is the usual choice when we spray the underside of a roof deck to make an unvented attic. That move matters in Florida because the air handler and ducts are usually in the attic. Once the roof deck is sealed and insulated, the attic stays much closer to indoor temperature, and the ducts stop losing so much cooling on the way to your rooms. Open-cell also lets water pass through slowly, so a roof leak tends to show up as a stain rather than staying hidden.
Closed-cell foam
Closed-cell foam is dense and rigid, at roughly R-5 to R-7 per inch. It resists moisture and adds stiffness to the surface it bonds to. We use it where water is part of the picture or space is tight: metal buildings that drip condensation, the underside of raised floors on elevated homes, some block-wall interiors, and shallow cavities that need more R-value per inch.
How to tell if foam is right for you
Foam is a good fit if your ducts and air handler are in the attic, if you have vaulted or cathedral ceilings with little room for insulation, if a bonus room over the garage never cools down, or if a raised floor lets heat and humid air in from below. If your attic is open, easy to walk and your ducts are in good order, sealing the ceiling and blowing in loose fill may give you most of the benefit for less. We look at the house and recommend the approach that fits.
Code, safety and ventilation
The 2023 Florida energy code summary from the Insulation Institute notes that whole-house mechanical ventilation is required when a home tests tighter than 3 air changes per hour. Sealing a roof deck can tighten a house a lot, so we talk through ventilation with you. Foam plastic also needs the right covering, such as drywall in living space or an ignition barrier or tested coating in attics, depending on the product. Florida's residential code keeps above-grade foam at least 6 inches from bare soil for termite inspection, and we follow that at every exterior edge.
What This Covers
The places we most often spray foam in and around Bradenton:
Roof deck / unvented attic
Open-cell foam on the underside of the roof sheathing, so the attic, air handler and ducts sit inside the conditioned space.
Walls and additions
Foam in open stud walls during remodels and additions, and on the inside of block walls where furring allows.
Raised floors
Closed-cell foam under elevated floors on island and older homes, where moisture and heat come from below.
Bonus rooms and kneewalls
Sealing the floor over the garage, the kneewalls and the sloped ceilings that make upstairs rooms run hot.

How It Works
1. Inspection
We check the attic, ducts, air handler, roof deck and any walls or floors you want done, and look for leaks and moisture.
2. Written plan
You get a quote that lists foam type, thickness, R-value and price for each area, plus any coverings or vent changes.
3. Prep and spray
We cover floors and belongings, seal off the work area, then spray in passes to the planned thickness.
4. Clear the air
The house is ventilated while the foam cures. Plan to be away at least 24 hours, as HomeGuide advises.
5. Walkthrough
We check thickness, clean up and show you the finished work before we leave.

Spray Foam Insulation Questions
Does spray foam on the roof deck void my shingle warranty?
Some shingle makers have rules about unvented attics. Check your roof warranty terms before you decide, and we can explain how the assembly works so you can ask the right question.
Will foam hide a roof leak?
Open-cell foam lets water pass through slowly, so leaks usually show as a stain. Closed-cell can trap water against the deck. That is one reason we use open-cell on most home roof decks and inspect the roof before we spray.
How long until I can go back inside?
HomeGuide advises staying out for at least 24 hours after spraying. We tell you the time for the product we use and ventilate the space while it cures.
Can you spray foam inside concrete block walls?
Block walls in finished homes are usually covered by furring and drywall. During a remodel, foam can go on the inside of the block. For finished walls, the attic is often a better place to spend the money.
